Joseph R. Deerin, CSM is a 1990 graduate of Denison University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. While at Denison University he served as president of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was a member of several national honor societies. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Real Estate Development from Johns Hopkins University. He has extensive experience in shopping center management and leasing, having been employed by national real estate companies such as JMB Retail Properties Co. and Urban Retail Properties Co. out of Chicago, IL. Joe is a Certified Shopping Center Manager (CSM) and is presently completing his management plan to earn the designation of Certified Property Manager (CPM). In addition to the above designations, he is also a licensed real estate broker in the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

Growing up in a family involved in real estate, Joe officially began his career in real estate in 1990 as a sales associate for LMS Commercial Real Estate. As of 1991, Joe was employed as General Manager / Property Manager of shopping malls and mixed use developments ranging in size from 150,000 to 500,000 square feet for JMB Retail Properties Co., Urban Retail Properties Co., Financial Service Companies and Pension Funds. His responsibilities included budgeting, analyzing market conditions, designing and implementing preventative maintenance programs, instituting a temporary tenant leasing program, establishing management controls, monitoring property performance, as well as supervising personnel for housekeeping, maintenance, security and management.

While at JMB Retail Properties Co. and Urban Retail Properties Co., Joe focused on creating and increasing value of the shopping centers he managed. He reduced expenses without sacrificing quality, and increased income. His dual role as Property Manager / Leasing Agent served as a valuable asset to the ownership and properties he oversaw. He also implemented major capital expenditure programs including roofing repairs, parking lot repairs and interior renovations; negotiated contracts; solicited lease renewals; canvassed local and regional markets for prospective tenants; and prepared End of Month Reports and Quarterly Reports for the corporate office or asset management company.

Since his return in July 1996 to Property Management Alternatives, Inc. dba LMS Commercial Real Estate, Joe acts as Owner, President, Broker of Record and Senior Property Manager for the LMS and PMA portfolio of properties. Joe actively engages in setting strategic goals and plans for the Company, soliciting new management and leasing contracts, negotiating new leases, renewals and extensions, interacting with Owners, Tenants, Lenders, and Vendors, implementing new technology, and overseeing the day to day operations of the Company. Property Management Alternatives, Inc. currently manages in excess of 5.5 million square feet, and LMS leases in excess of 6.5 million square feet.

Joe also serves on the Board of Directors for Susquehanna Gateway Heritage Area and the Committee for the DCAD of the Pennsylvania Dutch Council of the Boy Scouts of America. 

When not working, Joe enjoys spending time with his twin boys, David and Jake, and spending time outdoors.
